Introduction
Hello!
I'm so excited to have you joining us for this adventure! Our upcoming journey through Oman is going to be something truly special — expect dramatic mountain landscapes, off-road desert drives, hidden wadis with crystal-clear pools, coastal scenery, and nights spent camping under the stars. Along the way, we’ll hike, swim, explore, and experience Omani culture and food first-hand, all while sharing the journey with an incredible group of like-minded adventurers.
This Pre-Departure Pack has everything you need to feel prepared — from flights and visas to packing tips, safety info, and local customs.
If you have any questions, I'm just a message away.
Let the countdown begin!

Flights
The trip will start and end in Muscat, so the best airport to fly in and out of is Muscat International Airport (MCT). If you choose to fly in and out of a different airport, you will need to get yourself to and from Muscat for the start and end of the trip.
The trip will begin at 9:00am, so you should arrive into Muscat the day before the trip start date. Arriving later than this could mean missing the start of the trip.
Travel Insurance
You must have comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, personal belongings and trip cancellations/delays. You will need to provide proof of insurance as part of the Final Details form.
Visa Info
Many nationalities are eligible for visa-free entry into Oman for up to 14 days. Visa requirements vary depending on your passport, so it is your responsibility to check the specific entry requirements for your nationality well in advance of travel.
If a visa is required for you, please apply online before departure where possible. We will require a copy of your visa (if applicable) ahead of the trip start date.
Please ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date.
Money
Currencies used:
- Omani Rial (OMR) – the official currency
- US Dollar (USD) – sometimes accepted in hotels or tourist settings, but not guaranteed
- British Pounds (GBP) or Euros (EUR) are not commonly accepted, so we recommend using Omani Rial where possible.
Cash vs Card: Cards work well in Muscat and larger towns, hotels, and supermarkets. However, smaller shops, local markets, mountain villages, and rural cafés often only accept cash, especially on off-road days.
ATMs: ATMs are available in cities and larger towns, but can be limited or unreliable in remote areas. We strongly recommend carrying some cash with you at all times, particularly during desert and mountain sections of the trip.
Tipping: Tipping is appreciated but not expected in Oman. In restaurants or with guides and drivers, small tips are welcomed but always discretionary. You should never feel pressured to tip.
Food & Water
Expect rich, flavourful Omani cuisine — think grilled meats and seafood, rice-based dishes, lentil soups, fresh salads, flatbreads, and a variety of dips and accompaniments.
Vegetarian options are widely available, especially in cities, and we’ll do our best to accommodate dietary requirements throughout the trip.
Tap water in Oman is generally safe to drink, particularly in cities and hotels. There are also many places to refill bottles with filtered water, and we’ll regularly stop at shops and refill points. Bringing a refillable water bottle is strongly recommended, especially for hikes and off-road days.
Connectivity
SIM cards are cheap and easy to buy at the airport or in Muscat. We recommend getting one on arrival if you want mobile data.
You can also use a regional or Oman-specific eSIM. We personally use Nomad — use code TEETRAVELS for a discount on your first purchase.
Wi‑Fi is widely available in hotels and many cafes, though speeds vary. In remote or desert areas, connection can be limited.
