Flights

Start and end your trip in Tirana, Albania. Please book your flights to/from Tirana International Airport (TIA). If you arrive through other means (bus, private transfer), let us know so we can arrange as needed.

  • Arrival: Please aim to arrive by 12:00 noon on Day 1. We recommend arriving the day before if possible. We can arrange your airport transfer.
  • Departure: The trip ends in Tirana, with airport transfer provided. The trip will end by 15:00, so flying or onward travel can be booked from any time after this.

Travel Insurance

You must have comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, personal belongings, trip cancellations/delays, adventure activities (hiking, swimming, kayaking, etc.), and hiking up to 3000 m. You will need to provide proof of insurance as part of the Final Details form.

Visa Info

Most travellers don't need a visa to visit Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo, or North Macedonia for stays under 90 days. Still, please double-check entry rules for your passport via your government's foreign travel site and ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from arrival with at least two blank pages. Let us know if you need an invitation letter or any other assistance.

Money

Currencies used:

  • Albania: Lek (ALL)
  • Montenegro: Euro (EUR)
  • Kosovo: Euro (EUR)
  • North Macedonia: Denar (MKD)

Other currencies such as US Dollars won't be accepted widely but can be changed at currency exchanges.

  • Cash vs Card: Cards work well in most cities and tourist areas. Small shops or rural cafes may only accept cash.
  • ATMs: Widely available. We recommend withdrawing local currency in each country rather than bringing cash from home.
  • Tipping: At your discretion and generally not expected. If tipping guides, 5%–10% of the trip cost (split among guides) is a reasonable guideline.

Food & Water

Expect hearty, flavourful Balkan food — grilled meats, local cheeses, stews, fresh produce, and lots of baked goods. Vegetarian options are common; vegan options less so in rural areas (we'll accommodate where possible).

Tap water is generally safe, but feel free to use filtered water in remote areas. A refillable bottle is recommended.

Connectivity

SIM cards are cheap and easy to buy in Tirana, though opportunities to arrange physical SIMs in other countries may be limited.

You can also use a Balkans regional eSIM. We personally use Nomad — use code TEETRAVELS for a discount on a first purchase.

Wi‑Fi is common in cafes and hotels; speeds are generally good but can be patchy in mountain areas.
